The core of the course
Questions written from the manual the exam is referenced to.
Not scraped, not recalled, not bought from an offshore content farm. Each item is written from a fact ledger built out of the source, tagged to its task on the official outline, and carries an explanation of why the answer is the answer.
85 of them are written and reviewed today. The bank grows to about 1,000 as the lessons land, and the pricing page gives the month each piece is due.
Try twelve of themAnatomy of an item
Every question carries five things.
- Outline task
Domain, task, and knowledge code, so an exam can be drawn to the real weights and so your score report tells you where to go next.
- Type and difficulty
One of six types, graded one to three, so a drill can be easy, brutal, or mixed.
- Four options
Distractors drawn from the same material, so the wrong answers are things a real candidate actually believes. No all of the above, so options shuffle safely.
- Rationale
Why the right answer is right and, when it matters, why the tempting wrong one is wrong. This is where the learning happens.
- Verified source
The exact source page the item was checked against. If a manual is revised, we know what to re-verify.
Terminology
What a thing is called, and the distinction the manual draws between two words people use interchangeably. Register versus grille. Latent versus sensible.
Number
The figures that are worth a question: 12,000 Btu to a ton, minimum SEER, clearance dimensions, riser and tread limits, temperature drops.
Identification
Given a description, name the component or the condition. This is the closest thing the exam has to a photo question.
Defect
What is wrong, why it matters, and what it implies if nobody fixes it. Domain 2 leans on this.
Scope
In or out of a standard inspection. Candidates lose easy points here because scope is boring and heavily tested.
Application
A short scenario with a judgment call. Four plausible responses, one best one. This is the format that surprises people on exam day.
Blueprint
Exams are drawn task by task, in the exam's own proportions.
This is the official 2023 EBPHI content outline. A 200-item draw puts roughly this many questions on each task. The bank holds at least three times the draw count per task, so a retake sees fresh items.

Third-party prep sites commonly publish 63 / 25 / 12 for the domain weights. That is wrong. The published 2023 outline is 70 / 20 / 10, and a study plan built on the wrong numbers spends about a fifth of its hours in the wrong place.
Three ways it gets used
The same bank, three different jobs.
Check on Learning
After every lesson. Twelve to twenty items, 80 percent to pass, unlimited attempts, immediate rationale. Formative, and the prerequisite for the mastery exam.
Mastery Exam
300 items drawn to blueprint across three sittings, 95 percent to pass, no rationales until the whole thing is done. Graded on the server. This is the gate that activates the guarantee.
NHIE Simulator
200 items, 4 hours, 25 of them flagged internally as unscored just like the real thing. It reports a raw percentage and a breakdown by domain and task, never a scaled score, because EBPHI does not publish how raw answers convert to that scale. Unlimited attempts.
The bank is the product. The lessons exist to feed it.
Twelve items, scored, with the rationales. Then decide.
