The short version
A cookie is a small file a website stores in your browser. Inspector Exam Lab sets only the cookies the site needs to work. There are no advertising, analytics, or social media cookies, and no third party sets cookies on our pages.
The cookies we set
All five are first party, strictly necessary, and set only when you use the feature they serve. Each one is marked so that scripts on the page cannot read it and it is sent only over an encrypted connection. None holds your name or email address.
| Name | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|
| iel_session | Keeps you signed in to the course after you use an emailed sign-in link. | 30 days, or until you sign out |
| iel_attempt | Ties a free practice exam in progress to this device, so the exam knows you when you come back. | 30 days |
| iel_pass | Remembers that you confirmed your email address for the free exam on this device. | 90 days |
| iel_practice | Ties a practice exam in the paid course to this device while you take it. | 30 days |
| iel_mastery | Ties a mastery exam attempt to this device while you take it. | 30 days |
Browser storage
During an exam, an answer that could not reach our server right away waits in your browser's session storage until it can. It is cleared once it is sent, and the browser clears it when you close the tab. Nothing else is stored in your browser.
Why there is no cookie banner
Laws that require consent for cookies, such as the European ePrivacy rules, exempt cookies that are strictly necessary to provide a service you asked for. Every cookie here is that kind, so there is nothing to accept or decline. If we ever add a cookie that is not strictly necessary, we will ask first where the law requires it, and this page will list it before it is set.
Checkout
Payment happens on Stripe's own checkout page, not on this site. Stripe sets its own cookies there, to process the payment and to prevent fraud. Those are covered by Stripe's cookie and privacy policies, not this page.
Turning cookies off
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you do, the public pages still work, but you cannot stay signed in or resume an exam on that device.
