This is not a school.
It awards no education hours. It carries no state approval. It will not satisfy a licensing requirement anywhere. Every one of those is true, deliberate, and the reason the course is any good.
What this is
- Exam preparation for the National Home Inspector Examination.
- Review instruction for people who have already had the training.
- A question bank with lessons attached.
What this is not
- A pre-licensing or fundamentals course.
- Approved education hours in any state.
- Continuing education credit.
- Field training, ride-alongs, or supervised inspections.
- Affiliated with or endorsed by the examination board.
Why it is drawn that narrowly
A state-approved school is a different business. The price of one is not paid for better teaching; it is paid for a state agency reviewing a curriculum against a prescribed outline, for classroom hours somebody has to certify, and for field training somebody has to supervise. In one state a national provider charges more than $2,500 for its program; in a state with no licensing law, the same brand and the same curriculum sells for about $700. The difference is approval and field hours, not instruction.
Exam review is also treated differently under the law. Oregon statute specifically exempts schools that offer only review instruction preparing a student to sit a professional licensing exam, where the student has already completed the training. Calling this a school would give that up and gain you nothing.
So the honest description and the sensible one are the same description. You already did the hours. What you need now is to pass a specific exam, and that is the only thing this sells.
What to do if you still need hours
Go find an approved school in your state and do the program. Check your state's licensing board for the approved provider list rather than taking a school's word for it, because approval is state by state and lapses. Then come back here when you have a test date.
If you are in a state with no home inspector licensing law and you are sitting the NHIE for an association membership, you may not need a school at all. You still need to pass the exam.
Narrow on purpose. One exam, done properly.
